Date: Sat 28 October, 10:30am – 4:30pm
Location: Clayhill Arts, Clayhill Farm, Charlynch Lane, Bridgwater TA5 2PH
A day of talks, conversations, walks and workshops, with two members of the LAND2 Research Network, whose common interest in the Cold War and the resonance of place is expressed through divergent practices.
Louise K Wilson engages with lost traces of institutional spaces, often collaborating with the scientific community to produce works that comprise; installation, live work, video as well as sound. She has exhibited widely in North America and Europe. (www.lkwilson.org)
Stephen Felmingham’s drawing practice engages with place, perception and memory. His drawings bear witness to the cultural trauma of the late twentieth century through fieldwork among the ruins of Cold War installations. (www.axisweb.org/p/stephenfelmingham)
Sound workshop – Using the walk as a line of inquiry participants will use microphones and create sculptural devices to explore ‘sonic signatures’ and sound on the limits of perception.
Drawing workshop – Exploring peripheral vision and memory to alter focus and levels of attention participants will examine the often-irrational forms that exist just outside of our field of direct vision.
Note to participants: Please bring outdoor clothing and footwear and a hand sized object that has personal connection for drawing workshop. (Not to be shown before workshop.)
